History
In 1948, Eng. Hans Peter Schewe began service work on electronic marine equipment at the Port of Montevideo. At the time, he was the only engineer in Uruguay capable of doing service on international vessels. Together with his wife, Rosemarie Schewe, he established the marine service company "Laboratorio Técnico Científico."
More and more marine electronic companies required his services. Service contracts were made with Decca-Radar, Marconi, and Elac. Sales and service contracts with Magnavox Advanced Products and Systems Co., Furuno Electric Co. Ltd., and others followed.
In 1969, the first fish finder echo-sounder was introduced by Eng. Hans Peter Schewe after hard work convincing local fishermen.
In1977, Laboratorio Técnico Científico changed its name to AEROMARINE Ltd. and introduced new brands and services (communication, measuring equipment, security devices.) Special interest was taken in covering the needs of the different government offices and the Armed Forces. The company included a variety of military equipment in its product line. AEROMARINE Ltd. has been supplying radio beacons to the Navy for more than 20 years. In addition, the company provided a Rohde & Schwarz radio monitoring system to the Army.
In 1988, AEROMARINE Ltd. became the only service station in South America for MAGNAVOX via Inmarsat satellite communicators, MX2400.
In 1993, AEROMARINE Ltd. became the only service station in South America for the Mobile Telesystems Inc. MCS 9120 Sat Com.
In1995, AEROMARINE Ltd., changed its organization and name to AEROMARINE S.A. The company signed a Sales Agent Contract with Comsat Mobile Communications and became member of INMARSAT Partnership.
During 1997 and 1998, AEROMARINE S.A. provided, installed, and commissioned a complete radio monitoring system from Rohde & Schwarz for the Dirección Nacional de Comunicaciones (National Communications Regulatory Entity) which was awarded through an International Public Tender and supervised by ITU.
In 1997, Eng. Hans Peter Schewe and Rosemarie Schewe decided to retire on the company's 20th anniversary.
Significant projects AEROMARINE S.A. performed (see also our Reference Projects):
- Supplied units to upgrade the Navy's coast radar system.
- Supplied the Argentinean Navy with a Digital Selective Call System (DSC) for GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress Security System) for the Naval Base at Mar del Plata.
- Provisioned a radio communication logging system for a State's Train Administration Net (AFE).
- Supplied 100 % of the Inmarsat-C communication terminals for the Uruguayan Navy.
- Supplied two mobile land-stations for Inmarsat-M communications for DNC according to Abrev. Public Tender 1/96, which were donated to the National Army for their peace maneuvers with the UN
- Supplied and partially installed MIDIAN rolling code scramblers for the entire radio communication system of the Montevideo Police.
- Supplied and installed the complete electronic navigation and fishing equipment of the 100 meter Fishing Vessel, TOP OCEAN.
- Continued supplying Radio beacon stations to the Uruguayan Navy.
- Supplied an A3 GMDSS radio station for a naval tanker, Presidente Rivera, belonging to the Uruguayan Navy.
- Supplied a complete radio station for voice, radio, telex, and CW to the Naval Headquarters.
- Launched Orbcomm services in Uruguay during the telecommunications exhibition "Convergencia Mercosur." President J.M. Sanguinetti was awarded with first officially operational Orbcomm subscriber communicator in Uruguay.
- Supplied and installed (turnkey) a NAVTEX system for the Uruguayan Navy.
- Supplied and installed (turnkey) a complete DSC (Digital Selective Call) according to the GMDSS to the Uruguayan Navy and ANTEL.
- As Orbcomm Uruguay signs contracts with local VARs for use of the system and began to operate the first AVLS (Automatic Vehicle Location System) based on satellite communications via Orbcomm. At the same time, Aeromarine maintained several pilot projects using the Orbcomm System, including buoy monitoring and electrical counters, among others.
- Provisioned the first Digital TV transmitter from Rohde & Schwarz in Latin America.
- Provisioned Inmarsat Terminals and their Communication Services via Comsat for both the Navy and the Army for their U.N. Peace Keeping missions in the Congo. Included were 70 two-way VHF radio units and HF Radios with radiotelex, accessories, and tactical radio equipment.
- Supplied by public tender for provision and commission of a VTS, including 3 Litton Marine S Band high power radars and 3 systems including display processors and radar image compressors from Denbridge Digital.
- Provisioned a Navtex station, EPIRBs, and SARTs units for the whole Navy Fleet.
- Provisioned meteorological equipment from Thies-Clima, to the Government Meteorological Institute
On September 6, 2001, AEROMARINE S.A. was acquired by Christopher Schewe, who became full shareholder and President.
In the same year, Rohde & Schwarz of Germany contracted AEROMARINE S.A. to install and commission a Radio Monitoring System for TELCOR (Government Communication Authority) of Nicaragua. This project was financed by the World Bank and successfully finished in May 2002. Technical support continues.
